ESL One Cologne 2016
In early July, the eSports world will gather their attention towards ESL One Cologne 2016. The $1,000,000 USD CS:GO Major event, held in Cologne, Germany, will once more delight FPS fans for an entire week, with the final games set to be played in the LANXESS Arena, the countries biggest multifunction arena.
Entertainment is guaranteed, when the 16 best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams worldwide will clash for the second major event of 2016. Mousesports will start in Group C, the third of four groups in total, facing Virtus.pro in their opening match on Tuesday, July 5.
Aiming for the playoffs
Coming off of a 5th place finish at DreamHack Malmö, Chris "chrisJ" de Jong and his team managed to claim a spot in the E LEAGUE Last Chance Qualifier in Atlanta, Georgia in June. Since the ESL One Cologne Major Qualifier the team is working with coach Alexander "kassad" Trifunovic - with success: mousesports became the first team to secure a spot in the major event by going 3-0 in the qualifier, including a landslide 16-1 victory over ECS season 1 champion G2 eSports.
The competition at the major event will be a lot harder, but the team is well-prepared for the upcoming challenge, when they will face Virtus.pro, Team EnVyUs and Team Liquid in group C.
Playing in front of the crowd
A sold-out LANXESS Arena awaits the eight best CS:GO teams, as the two leading teams per group will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be held in the biggest multifunction arena in Germany - LANXESS Arena in Cologne. To date, last year's event in Cologne is one of the most memorable tournament attendances for our players still, although they didn't quite make the cut to reach the final round-of-eight in 2015. But with the improvements made in 2016, the team is aiming for the playoffs this year.
